Help & Hope Food Drive- From Phyllis Tumey: “A big thank you to all those volunteers who helped Saturday with the Help and Hope Food Drive. We worked at Ridge Road, Quebec and Castle Pines.” Across 5 King Soopers in our county, Jim Weglarz from Help and Hope reports a total of 5937 pounds of nonperishable foods and dry goods. The three stores assigned to us brought in we 2748 pounds of those donations. Those who helped have some wonderful stories to share from the many donors they met.

July 7 Ice Cream Social Updates. Lunch, games, and contests follow the 10 am, service in the sanctuary from 11 am to 1 pm. Check the July Newsletter for more details.

Sign up at the welcome center for the following:

Volunteers are needed for 1) grilling hot dogs and serving ice cream; 2) setting up and monitoring games; 3) “anywhere needed”
Teams are needed for tug-of-war (4 to a team), corn hole tournament (2 to a team) , 3-legged races (find a buddy to race with you). Prizes will be awarded.

Costumes of the 1874 era are highly encouraged and everyone will have the opportunity to vote not only for their favorite favorite ladies’ hat and costume (gentlemen included) but also for their favorite flavor of homemade ice cream.

Additionally, there will be opportunities to tie knots in the next Knot Again project, play some old-fashioned table games, paint stars for the November Star Lighting, cheer on your favorite team, help judge contests, and visit with friends.

Be sure to invite your family and friends to join in this special celebration.

Sesquicentennial Star Painting Project: during the July 7 Ice Cream Social, everyone will have the opportunity to paint a star for the November Star Lighting Event in downtown Castle Rock. Throughout the next five months, we hope all ages and various groups will want to paint one or two of the 500+ stars we’ll be preparing that will have our church logo on the reverse side. These will be keepsake ornaments for our Sesquicentennial Year as well as an invitation to the larger community to join us in worship and service.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study will not meet in July, but will resume their study of Romans (picking up chapter 13) on August 6. New folks or drop-ins are always welcome.

Water Bottles for DCR Parade

With the Rodeo Parade approaching at the end of July we invite you to bring cases of water for us to place our sticker and info on July 21st and then hand out at the parade on the 27th. You can place your cases next to the Help and Hope Food collection underneath the coat rack.

Sesquicentennial Teeshirt Orders: Thanks to all who have purchased a teeshirt and wear it to promote our celebration in the community. If you missed ordering a Sesquicentennial teeshirt, please contact Joyce Morales-Caramello. We’d like to place one more order but need 8 more to order the next ten.

United Women in Faith/ Leah Circle: If you would like to be added to the Leah Circle Roster and receive information about our lunches, our programs, our activities, please contact MaryAlice McHugh (maryalice3150@yahoo.com) or Julie Bailey (juliesings@gmail.com) We are updating our directory this summer.

Our Summer Pop-Up Choir is off to a great start. If you’d like to sing with us this summer at the 8:30 service, just “pop in” at 8 am to warm up and mic test in the Outdoor Chapel, or just “pop up” and join us in the hymn of the day. The hymns chosen for the summer season are familiar tunes we’ve sung for years. If you are a musician/musician who would like to share your talents with a solo or duet, contact Rev. Matt or Nancy Docksey to be placed on the schedule.

Please return your pledge cards to the office ASAP this will help us craft a budget for 2024-2025 Program year. You can find the cards on the registration desk in the sanctuary. You can also email Theresa your commitment for the year as well.

Kitchen Clean Up:

Please make sure if use the kitchen you clean the kitchen. We. have had a few issues lately where things have not been left as clean as they should be.

Quilts and Old Photos:

Do you have old family photos or an heirloom quilt you’d like to have on display as we celebrate our Sesquicentennial in August? The kiosk at the back of the church already contains photos from previous historical celebrations, but we’ll be adding more as we move through the summer months. We’ll make copies of these precious photos and return them to you. See Linda Pottenger or Julie Bailey for more details. Your ancestors may not have settled in Douglas County before or since statehood, but their lives somehow initiated your journey to our church.

Photos Needed: As we celebrate the 150th year of our church, we are looking for pictures of our congregation taking part in any of our special events and regular activities. Posed photos are nice, but candid shots of people enjoying the Help & Hope food drive, the ice cream social, any of our potluck meals, backpack ministry, Time & Talent, game night, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who takes these pictures should send them to Julie Bailey (juliesings@gmail.com) or Pastor Matt (matt.franks@fumccr.org) for inclusion in our newsletter and our sesquicentennial

Print Copies of the Church Newsletter. If you would like a print copy of the monthly newsletter reserved for you, please let Julie Bailey (juliesings@gmail.com) know so you can be added to the list. These copies will have your name on them and be available for pick-up in the church office. A few more will be available for our guests at the Welcome Center.
