The Book: The Christmas Letters by Magrey R deVega
In "The Christmas Letters," Magrey deVega invites readers to explore the miracle of Christ's birth through the New Testament Epistles, which reflect the early church's efforts to comprehend and celebrate the Incarnation. This Advent, by engaging with letters like Romans, 1 John, Philippians, and Colossians, you can deepen your understanding of Jesus as both fully human and fully divine, and experience the profound meaning of His coming.
In person Monday December 2 2024 to December 23 2024 6:30 to 8:00PM
Zoom session Friday November 29 to December 20th 6:30 to 8:00PM
Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group
Will begin their Advent study on November 19 with Adam Hamilton’s Prepare the Way for the Lord as its guiding text. This book may be purchased from Cokesbury or Amazon and an audio version may be borrowed through the public library through the Hoopla app. This group meets in the library from 9:30-1100 am every Tuesday and welcomes anyone who would like to join them for this 4-week Advent study.
King Soopers/Safeway Gift Cards:
Did you know that 5% of your grocery purchases can be returned to our church if you have a Safeway gift card to load and reload OR have signed on with King Soopers and designated FUMCCR as your nonprofit organization? Did you know these funds help fund projects in and around the church? Would you like to help bring us back into the $2-3K column?
If you frequent Safeway, simply purchase a grocery card from Theresa Kepple and add money. That card becomes the card you use to purchase groceries. If you wish to use King Soopers, go to KingSoopers.com/CommunityRewards and follow Step #1 to create an account and Step #2 to register our organization (FUMCCR). You will need to add our NPO number which is NPO#QM168.
Updated Information on the Denver Brass Concert “Pipes and Horns of Plenty”:
Sunday afternoon November 24 at 2:30 pm
Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E Hampden Ave, Cherry Hills Village
Denver Brass and organist Joseph Galema promise a cornucopia overflowing with organ pipes, tiny trumpets, and heralding horns. Donations of canned goods benefitting MetroCaring will be accepted before the show. Denver Brass reminds us that “The feeling of Thanksgiving is one of overwhelming appreciation for friends and loved ones, and the bounty of love and joy they provide.” This concert, which is also offered on Saturday evening at 7 pm (same location) features a commissioned piece honoring Joe Docksey (Nancy’s husband), who was the Director of the Lamont School of Music at DU for 23 years and a gifted member of the Denver Brass. Tickets are available online for both concerts.
Cookie Walk set for December 8: The annual United Women in Faith will once a again be offering cookies for sale on December 8 from 9am to 12 noon. Cookie bakers and cookie purchasers will be needed. Let’s make this the best one ever.
Sesquicentennial Stars need to be turned in by November 1. Please leave them at the table in the Narthex. Many of these stars will be part of the tree our church is sponsoring in Festival Park during the holiday season.
Cookbook Recipes are due December 1: Your shared recipes may be ones your family has used for decades or ones you use over and over again and enjoy sharing at our church potlucks. Help us make the cookbook even better by including a sentence or two on its history or the occasion everyone looks forward to having it served. Drop your recipes in the collection box at the Welcome desk or email it to Kari Sarah at kasorah@yahoo.com
Cookies, Cocoa, Carols and More! Mark your calendar for a Sunday afternoon of intergenerational fellowship on December 1, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Plans are underway for those who would like to see the movie “The Very Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at our local AMC theater followed by time spent together in Fellowship Hall, sharing cocoa and cookies and gathering around the piano to sing some holiday tunes. Details will follow in upcoming blasts, but the time frame will be approximately 1-4 pm. If you are a pianist who would love to help lead the singing, please let Josh Hay or Julie Bailey know.
Be a Point Person! With the Flying W event and the Fall Color Tour over Guanella Pass offering great opportunity for fellowship, what would you like to do as a group? Please share your ideas with Pastor Matt and volunteer to be the point person for coordinating the event.
